Dear RLC Families:

Welcome back to all new and returning PARADE students of Riverview Learning Center and their families! Here at the RLC we hosted summer school, our custodian has been scrubbing the classrooms and polishing things up, and our secretary, Kris Rodger, is busy working to get the 2016-17 school year started.

As the new RLC Principal and on behalf of all RLC Staff, I would like to welcome you to the new school year. My name is John Bomar and I have been an educator in schools for 17 years now. Most recently I served in the role of Elementary Assistant Principal in the Sumner School District. Prior to that I was a Dean of Students, School Counselor and Teacher for many years in the Auburn School District. Besides my educational career, I have served as a youth minister, mover, construction worker, life guard, and boy's home counselor. I have a wife of nearly 20 years and two children: Tai, 14; and Emi, 11. I also love to play and coach sports, especially soccer.

There will be some other changes this Fall at the RLC. We will welcome Mr. Payette as the new counselor, Mrs. Hoffmann will join PARADE as the new high school Language Arts/Social Studies teacher, and Mrs. Culverwell will be teaching 7/8 Science and Math.

Our first week of school this year will begin September 6 with a PARADE K-8 parent meeting from 9:00am-11:00am with time to grab a cup of coffee and a treat and visit with our fabulous staff. The PARADE High School program meeting for parents and students will follow at 11 a.m.   This will be an opportunity to meet the teachers, obtain at-home assignments and curriculum for the first week, and to become acquainted with other parents and students.   Conferences are scheduled for the remainder of the week and you can find your student's scheduled time at the bottom of this letter.

The first day of classes for CHOICE start at 8:15 on September 6th.  CLIP students will start September 6th as well, and they should be in Ms. Malm's classroom from 1:00-3:00pm. CLEAR students will meet with Mr. Seymour on Thursday, September 8th at 1:30.

I am very excited to get to know all the students and parents, and learn more about the PARADE, CLIP/CLEAR, and CHOICE programs. We will continue to build on the solid foundation and ideals of the RLC. I hope you've had a great summer - mostly I hope you were able to get some time as a family to rejuvenate and relax.

Sincerely,

John Bomar

Riverview Learning Center Principal

Dam Evacuation Drill Information

Wednesday, September 28, 2016, is the day designated for Riverview Learning Center students and staff to participate in a Tolt Dam full Evacuation Drill. As many of you know, the Riverview School District participates in a simulation, along with local agencies, in the event of a dam breach. At approximately 9:30 AM, on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, students at the Riverview Learning Center, Tolt Middle School, and Carnation Elementary will participate in this drill.

This year's drill is a full evacuation which means we will walk the route to the high ground meeting place in the Tolt Highlands (approx. 3 mile round trip).

Students and adults classified as medically fragile will walk from the RLC and board busses that will depart from Carnation Elementary and will take to the road leading up to the staging area. If you have concerns about your student walking this distance, please call the main office at 425-844-4960 ONLY IF YOUR STUDENT IS UNABLE TO WALK AND NEEDS TO RIDE THE BUS.

PARADE families: This only applies to students who attend PARADE on Wednesday morning.

Please remind your students to dress warm and wear sturdy shoes. We are hopeful the weather will be cooperative; however, if the day brings a downpour of rain, we will cancel the drill.

Remember our emergency drills are all part of working together to help keep students prepared and safe.
